Catalogue for Appointment With Six, a group exhibition held at The Arun Art Centre, which was at the time a functioning gallery in Arundel, West Sussex. The exhibition’s dates were 19 October - 5 November 1966. Appointment With Six featured Aubrey Williams, alongside Gwen Barnard, Pip Benveniste, Oswell Blakeston, Max Chapman, and A. Oscar. The exhibition came with a modest but important catalogue, which had something of a home-made feel and aesthetic. The works listed in the catalogue were priced in Guineas.
‘The Six’ each had a slim page of biographical information, followed by several pages of list of work, with corresponding prices.
The text on Aubrey Williams’ page was as follows: “Born 1926 British Guiana. Studied two years St. Martin’s School of Art. In his youth lived with the Warrau (a primitive Indian Tribe) of British Guiana who made him a blood brother. Commissioned to do a painting on the myths and legends of British Guiana for the House of Assembly, where one of his paintings is already hung. He is greatly concerned and moved by the life force in nature. This is the compelling motive in his work. His feelings towards nature, combined with the ability to put in paint these feelings, make his work in each painting a world in itself, a beautiful world with all the moods fearful and otherwise that exist on earth. Has exhibited in four continents and his paintings have been chosen to appear in ‘Expo 67’ at the World’s Fair in Montreal next year.”
