Original Press release for Aubrey Williams’ exhibition at Whitechapel Art Gallery, 12 June - 16 August 1998.

From the press release, “Moving between figuration and abstraction, William’s (sic) paintings defy easy categorisation. He was deeply curious about pre-Columbian culture and passionate about the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. His painting was influenced by North American and Latin American art including Jackson Pollock, Arshile Gorky, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo and Matta,”
