“This, the first solo exhibition of the work of Chris Ofili in a public gallery, brings together painting and sculpture created over the past six years showcasing his eclectic approach to his art since he graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1993… Ofili’s paintings rest their bottom edges on elephant turds like cool dudes slouching against a wall watching urban street life go by. Their spirited tone is tongue-in-cheek and full of wit, irony and humour. Assertive images derived from the incongruous worlds of art history, cartoons, pornography, sports and music are radiant with colour, glitter, pattern and collage.”
