Inside the front panel is a text written by the artist - an extract from the text: “Not only is 1989 the bicentenary of the French revolution and the tercentenary of he Bill of Rights (refer to the £2 coin) but it is also Museum Year. The British Museum in London is a showroom for stolen goods. ”The Ballad of the Wing is the contemporary manifestation of The Wing Museum; the touring section. The museum itself is now closing down due to lack of funding but for some centuries now it has existed in a number of locations - wherever seemed most appropriate. Over the years gifts have been made, of ceramics, furniture, paintings, drawings, souvenirs of great events. The Wing Museum is there to record important moments in Black creativity but it also serves as a reminder that unless we recognise this brilliance we will be trapped.”
There are 2 credits: “Audio visuals supplied by Urban Fox ltd” and on the reverse panel “This space sponsored by The Elbow Room.”
