Althea McNish

Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, date unknown

Althea McNish studied Painting at the Royal College of Art, London, England. It was her association with the RCA that earned her a place in RCA Black, held at the RCA, 31 August - 6 September 2011. The exhibition featured contributions by a number of Black artists who had studied at the RCA over the course of several decades. At the end of her three years of study, 1954-57, she became ARCA, Associate of the Royal College of Art, and then a year later, after a year of professional activitiy as a textile designer, DesRCA, Designer of the Royal College of Art.

In 2006 the University of Trinidad and Tobago made McNish an honorary DFA: Doctor of Fine Art, honoris causa.
