In 1986, Rasheed Araeen put together an exhibition he titled Third World Within. Held at Brixton Art Gallery, it was described as an “exhibition of the work of AfroAsian Artists in Britain”. Apart from Araeen himself, the exhibition featured Saleem Arif, Avtarjeet Dhanjal, Uzo Egonu, Mona Hatoum, Gavin Jantjes, Keith Piper and Kumiko Shimuzu. The exhibition’s dates were 31 March – 22 April 1986.
