From the publication, In Black and White: Prints from Africa and the Diaspora, by Gill Saunders and Zoe Whitley, V&A Publishing, 2013: “Llewellyn Xavier, born in St Lucia, was one of a number of black artists in Britain who, in the 1970s, produced work that engaged directly with political issues, especially discrimination and police brutality against black immigrants. He made lithographs, screen prints and mail art, using imagery drawn from photographs and news media to explore controversial real-life cases.”
