Kcho (Alexis Leyva / Alexis Leyva Machado)

Born, 1970 in Nueva Gerona, Cuba

Kcho’s name, in paretheses appears as either Alexis Leyva or Alexis Leyva Machado. His place of birth is given as either Nueva Gerona, Cuba, or Nuevo Gerona, Isla de la Juventud, Cuba.

Kcho’s work, La Regata, 1994, was reproduced and discussed in Art in the Caribbean: an introduction, by Anne Walmsley and Stanley Greaves, in collaboration with Christopher Cozier, New Beacon Books, 2011.

Kcho was one of eight artists included in the exhibition No Place (Like Home)held at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 9 - June 8 1997. The exhibition was curated by Richard Flood, Curatorial Assistant, Deepali Dewan, and Curatorial Intern, Eungie Joo. The other artists in the exhibition were Zarina Bhimji, Willie Doherty, Kay Hassan, Nick Deocampo, Gary Simmons, Meyer Vaisman, and Kara Walker.
