Gilane Tawadros

Born, 1959

Gilane Tawadros was inIVA’s first director. Together with David Chandler, Projects Manager at inIVA, Gilane Tawadros wrote the catalogue Foreword for Keith Piper’s major inIVA exhibition ‘Relocating the Remains’ (1997). For the Transforming the Crown catalogue (also 1997), she supplied the essay ‘Running with the Hare and Hunting with the Hounds’. She spoke at the Shades of Black conference held at Duke University, 19 - 22 April 2001. Her paper, “A Case of Mistaken Identity” (part of the “Historical Perspectives on International Curatorial Debates of the 1980s and 1990s panel, 21 April 2001) is reproduced in Part One of the book Shades of Black, subtitled Assembling Black Arts in 1980s Britain.
