From the foreword to the catalogue: “This exhibition is one of a series drawn from the Arts Council Collection containing a broad range of work selected around a theme…this exhibition concentrates upon the present and the more recent past. Political and social concerns have given rise to such a diversity of work that to go back further in an exhibition of this scale would have meant omitting younger and perhaps more urgent voices.”
